Reservation rules being followed, implementation periodically reviewed

JAMMU: Minister for Social Welfare, Sakina Ittoo on Saturday informed the Legislative Council that reservation rules for various categories, including Schedule Caste and Scheduled Tribe, are followed in letter and spirit and its implementation is reviewed periodically in the interest of concerned beneficiaries.
Replying to Supplementaries to the question of Ajay Kumar Sadhotra, the minister said that the roaster maintained under reservation quota is being adhered to strictly by the all government departments, including Police Department.
She said: “I have been personally writing to various government departments to adhere strictly to reservation rules.”
Replying to the main question, Sakina said that in light of SRO-294 and SRO-144, the reservation in Services for Scheduled Castes (SC) and Scheduled Tribes (ST) are provided both in promotion as well as Direct recruitment.
She further said that 8 per cent reservation under SC category and 10 per cent under ST category are given under direct recruitment quota.
“Where the direct recruitment is less than 25 per cent the reservation is given at 8 per cent and 10 per cent respectively to SC and ST categories and where it is more than 25 per cent the reservation is 4 per cent and 5 per cent to these categories respectively,” the minister maintained.
