AHMEDABAD: Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday challenged the Congress to name its chief ministerial candidate for the state assembly elections scheduled to be held in two phases this month.
Addressing an election rally at Rajpipla in Narmada district, he said that if Ahmed Patel, political secretary to Congress president Sonia Gandhi, is not its chief ministerial candidate then who else is the candidate? Modi had earlier said that the Congress has no other Patel leader than Ahmed Patel. He said that the Congress was against the development of Gujarat.
Referring to a Congress advertisement about malnutrition in the state in which a photo from a Sri Lankan camp was attached and later withdrawn, Modi alleged that the Congress was conspiring to malign the image of the state in the world.
Patel yesterday had refuted Modi’s claim and said that he was not interested in the post of a chief minister.
‘I am not a contender for the post nor I will be in future,’ he said in a statement.
