NEW DELHI: Social activist-turned-politician Arvind Kejriwal’s party was on Saturday named ‘Aam Admi Party’ at a meeting of its founder members here during which the Constitution for the political outfit was also adopted.
Official launch of the party will be on Monday at Jantar Mantar.
The meeting of around 300 founder members was held at Constitution Club during which Kejriwal proposed the name of the party which was accepted by other members, the India Against Corruption (IAC) sources said.
The Constitution of Kejriwal’s party was adopted at the meeting. It was proposed by social activist Mayank Gandhi and seconded by Chandramohan.
The formation of the party has come after a split with veteran Gandhian Anna Hazare over the question of the anti-corruption movement taking a political route as Kejriwal, Prashant Bhushan, Manish Sisodia and others desired.
Both Hazare and Kejriwal on September 19 had annou-nced parting of ways following differences over forming a party with Gandhian taking a firm stand that the movement should remain apolitical.
Kejriwal had announced the formation of the party on 2nd October.
Earlier before the meeting, Kejriwal said the women, youth and students will be given major responsibility in the new political outfit.
